Our Mission

Cooper's Gym and the Detroit Helping our Youth Development Corporation (a State of Michigan non-profit cooperation in which 90% of all proceeds go directly toward children) are working together to prevent juvenile crime and violence utilizing a recreation-oriented juvenile crime prevention program that relies heavily upon athletics, recreational activities and education to help kid go right and stay right. Through our crime prevention and and anti-drug programs, our mission and commitment is to

"Filling Playgrounds, Not Prisons."

Our Goal
Our program is a youth prevention program that relies on education, athletic and recreational activities to cement a bond and create trust and understanding between teachers, coaches, police officers and youth.

Our program is based on the conviction that young people, if they are reached early enough, can develop strong positive attitudes towards police officers in their journey toward the goal of maturity and good citizenship.

Our program brings youth under the supervision and constructive influence of law enforcement agency and expands public awareness about the role a police officer. Part of that role is the reinforcement of the responsible values and attitudes instilled in young people by their parents.

Studies have shown that if young people respect a teacher, coach, and/or police officer on the ball field, in a boxing gym, or in a classroom, the youth will likely respect the laws that police officers enforce. Such respect is beneficial to the youth, the police officers, the neighborhood, the business community and society.

Our program is a volunteer-driven organization that primarily depends on sponsored support from the private sector, such as individuals, business leaders, corporations and foundations

We are a NON-PROFIT organization, therefore all donations are tax-deductable.
